i am having trouble with the a/c, heater. at the moment sometimes it works then all of a sudden it does"nt. also if i have the unit on auto there is a strange noise almost like a screeching sound this also drains the battery. what i have noticed that if i have the unit switched to econ it seems to work better and this does"nt drain the battery. i was thinking of replacing the control unit inside the car, would this solve the problem or is it something more serious?

A screeching sound would be more like the blower motor, if you hear it screeching, try raising or lowering the fan speed to see if the noise changes or goes away. A bad motor will use too many amps and could possible discharge the battery.
