My daughter bought this 1995 jetta 4 days ago and since then the oil light has went on and off also now today the coolant or tempuratre light has went on. Can you please help we know nothing about this car. It has oil in it. But on the cap there is a thick yellow substance. The car has 132,000 miles on it. I checked the coolant it was a little low on the min line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if suggeesting repairs how much would they tipically run?

I suggest that you fill all the fluids, maybe even change that oil. Then start monitoring the temp and oil light and the fluid levels very closely. Is it possible to talk to the previous owner or the garage that maintained the vehicle to see what maintenance has been done? You could have a head or block problem so I would closely watch the cars performance.
