Good Day, I recently had the main computer replaced in my '89 Jetta/ 1.8 L/ 5 spd. Since then I noticed reduced pick-up and power from @ 2500 rpm to 3000 rpm, then I get a surge. The car also idles rough and will stall unless I keep the rpms @ 1200. After the car is hot it will idle, but the surge problem continues. Could it be the O2 sensor??

They new computer is it kicking out any codes? I would start with looking for a vacuum leak. A hose could be disconnected or broken. Check the coolant level and ensure that there is no air in the system. Start there and lets see what transpires.
