Eurovan heater

I have a 93 VW Eurovan-abou 120000 miles. The heater is not working. I don't have the repair manual yet. Do you know what I should check first?

CHECK IF THE THERMOSTAT IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. MAY HAVE FAILED
