1996 VW Golf 2.0, 106,000 miles. I changed the battery and the alarm went off. I tried opening the door but the alarm won't stop and now the car won't start or turn. Completely dead!

Someone told me that it is the factory antitheft. I bought the car 2 years ago and have no manual. Any suggestions on how to get it started?

That lock is broken, we can open and close the passenger side door and lock/unlock from the control panel. Will that work?
