I have a 1989 Volkswagen Golf with a 1.8 liter Digifant II engine. In the morning, when it is cool out (60-70 degrees), my car runs great. In the afternoons when it is hot (80+ degrees), after about a minute of running my fuel pump starts to whine. About 30 to 45 minutes of driving, and my car starts to hesitate when accelerating and then eventually dies. If I sit and wait for about fifteen minutes, it starts right back up and runs fine. I changed the fuel filter last week and it didn't help.

When it stalls next time immediately check for spark and fuel

Disconnect a plug wire ground it to the engine and crank engine over do you have spark. If so check for fuel crank engine over listen to the injector/s are they clicking, do you smell fuel vapor at throttle body. If not squirt fuel into the throttle body, did it start then dies out?

1992 VW Cabriolet w a 1.8 Liter Digifant II 5 speed. It just dies when it gets hot, no warning just dies. It's my daughters so I tried to fix it thinking it might be the ignintion module, I replaced it (small box mounted on the computer on driver side near window wiper motor). The problem still is happening. The last time it happened while accelerating onto the highway just hit 60mph got to the 3rd lane and it died. After about 45 min I was able to start it up again and it happened again about 2 miles later. This time I towed it home, however since then it hasn't happend again (weather now getting colder), this time I have a spark checker ready to insert inbetween spark plug and wire (light). Am I on the right track, and if so where do I go now if it turns out to be ignition?
