I have a 2003 VW GTI 1.8T with 72k miles. I'm getting poor performance and suspect a clogged fuel filter. I've located the filter, but how are the fuel lines removed? There's plastic connector on the plastic fuel lines. Is there a special tool needed?

Yes there are, which one in your case i am not sure, but, the parts store should.

Sometimes they work great, sometimes, I'll use an angled pick and a screwdriver or whatever it takes to get it to release.
