My steering wheel makes a sound whenever I turn it, like there is paper in there rubbing against the wheel. Any ideas what is making this noise? Thank you!

Is the sound from inside the car, like under the dash or coming from under the hood?

i have a 2002 cabrio convertible, 38,000 miles. It sounds like it is coming from the area between the steering wheel and the base (column) of the steering wheel. it definitely isnt coming from under the hood...more near the dash.

Might be a slightly mis-aligned cover or possibly the "clockspring", which is the contact plate for the air bag and any other steering wheel controls the car might have.

Thank you..i appreciate your help. I know in the past they did work on the steering wheel/air bag area because they forgot to fix something. I am taking the car in for an early 40,000 mile check up.
