1996 VW Jetta trek 185000 km 5spd

Hi,
My speedometer gauge does not work along with the KM not being counted, RPM's and temperature working fine gas gauge not working either actually the needel keeps going from empty to half a tank at every stop.
Tried changing the panel with another VW and said panel did not work at all.

Hey bp,
Sounds like 2 separate problems. There is a speed sensor in the trans that give you vehicle speed and it also sounds like there is a wiring/fuel tank sender issue causing the fuel gauge not to work.

Just a follow up to that are these sensors easy to locate or would you advise to have my mechanic fix it?
