Inspect the rotor and distributor cap and also the the coil wire. Is the point gap adjusted properly?

Thank you for replying to my question. See we had the engine off of it and put a clutch kit on it and some people told us their is a certain way to time a Volkswagon but I don't know how. But we checked everything though.Thank You

Pull the coil wire from the distributor and ground it to the engine and crank it over -do you have spark? If so replace the rotor/cap it has to go thru there to get to the plugs. Inspect the button on the cap/rotor could be burned-off.

Do you have the coil wired properly?
