1996 Volkswagen Golf GTI obd2 2.0 throws code P0501 for the vehicle speed sensor. IMPLAUSIBLE SIGNAL! My VAG com gave me this error, too 16885. The vehicle speed sensor had been replaced twice and there is still the same problem. Could this be the speedometer cluster, there is nothing wrong with the wire that lead to the sensor. Could I be missing a relay or fuse? HELP?!

Code P0501 for a 1996 Volkswagen Golf GTI with an OBD2 2.0 engine indicates a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Range/Performance problem. Can I ask if the speedometer is working? if so the PCm has gone bad, and if not remove the sensor to check the reluctor wheel down inside the final drive. Here is how to replace the engine control module so you can send it out to be checked. Here is the output speed sensor location so you can be sure the you have the correct sensor. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
