2008 Volkswagen Jetta replacement of rotors and pads

2008 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl 10,448 miles

I bought the car new and have had it for 10 months, and my pads and rotors needed to be replaced in the rear. I ahve been driving for 30 years and usually replace them between 25,000 and 50,000 miles. Not 10,000 miles. Is it possible that something was wrong with the first set or what else makes them go bad so fast?
