When I turn on the A/C it smells like dirty feet or bad cheese for about 10 minutes before it gets bearable. I have read other jetta owner reviews that have noted a similar problem and said that cleaning the coil did not help. Any ideas?

You probably have a dead mouse in your car. Do you let your car sit for long periods at a time? Do you live in the sticks?

As I read on CHrysler forume the cure is you buy sprayable Lysol (which is a bleach or chlorine solution), find th HVAC INTAKE! Opening, start HVAC on full, wait 1 minute to get the evaporator fins presumably wet because the moisture condences, spray into the intake. Also check if rubber nipples discharging the water under the car are not clogged.
