What car diagnostic tool do I need for repairs of the vehicle and how do I get them

that depends on far with diagnostics, and what kind, you want to go and what vehicle makes you want to to. If you just want to do VW/Audi then for a beginning scan tool I would get a Vag-Com from Ross-tech. IF you want to scope sensor then I would recommend a pico scope or ATS Scope from Bernie thompson. But the thing about diagnostics, or driveabilty, is that even with all the scan tools and all the scopes in the world you still need to know how to use and how to interpret the data. SO, the question I have for you is what are you trying to solve?
