Just bought a used Volkswagen Jetta 2002. The next day the catalytic converter light came on. The car is driving fine, but it doesn't have much pick up at high speeds. Does this mean I need a new catalytic converter or could it be some other problem???

You need to find out what exact code you have and let us know. If you does have catalytic converter CODE then it most likely needs one, as long as you don't have oygen sensor codes also.
