2002 Volkswagen Jetta Bad starter?

2002 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl 120000 miles

Good day, upon engaging the ingition there is a loud clicking, while key is turned all dash lights flicker. Is this a bad starter issue?

This sounds like a weak battery, has it ever been replaced? A 2002 car might still have the original battery in it. Batteries usually only last 5 or 6 years but some of the batteries I have seen that come out of Germany can last many more.
