Engine Cooling problem
2000 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 68.000 miles

The fan will still run after i turn the car off .. It runs until it kills the battery. Not sure how to fix this . I have disconnected the battery to save the car from dieing but need a long term solution. no lights or engine warning are coming on just the fan still runs after the car is off.

You may have a switch or relay that is stuck closed.

A kick test at home without any fancy testing equipment or diagrams is to swap the fan relay with another good known working relay and see if the problem still persists. Obviously you must make sure that the relay has the exact same part number on the casing.

If that doesnt work, you may have a faulty fan switch.
