2000 Volkswagen Jetta Car surges

When I am driving at low speeds, the car surges and jerks. I had a mechanic replace the gasket because it looked like it was leaking oil and ever since then the problem has occured and the check engine light came on too. Help pleaze!!

It sounds like he touched something he shouldn't have. If the check engine light is on, there is a trouble code stored in the computer identifying the problem. What you need to do is have the computer scanned. Most parts stores will do it for free. Have that done and let me know what code you find.
