I know nothing about cars, obviously, from my question. However, last week I brought my car in for a routine oil change. The next day, (first opportunity), for the car to idle, the temp shoots up. Not while driving, only when sitting idle. I bring the car in and after about 15 minutes looking at it, they tell me I need a new Radiator Fan. I say okay, can't stand that I have to pay almost $500 for it. The next day I am driving it and guess what. OVERHEATS AGAIN. I bring it back to the place that fixed it, state what's going on, obviously upset at this point and then they come back and tell me that I now need a new water pump. $300 more and now I believe this could/should have all been prevented. Is there any poossible chance they initially damaged the fan while performing an oil change, then when I allowed the overheat to go on for a few days, then the water pump went. Do I have any recourse/is any of it not my fault?

Many thanks!

Ok now the oil change should not have caused the overheating at all or made the fan go bad. A little overheat should not have caused the water pump to go bad. As for recourse if you didn't ask for the old parts so you could check the fan to see if it was bad or the water pump then you have nothing to go back on. If you have any more questions just ask.

The 1st thing that will happen when you don't know anything about a car is they gonna come up with where the money is-which is the water pump and radiator.

Who knows maybe there's a problem with thermostat and the coolant temperature is not giving the computer the correct input signal to activate the cooling fan-when there's nothing wrong with the electrci fan or a relay could also be air in the cooling system that didn't get bleed

I'm terribly sorry to say you've been had -your recourse-the burden of prove is yours to prove-
