1998 Volkswagen Jetta Air intake valve

When I replaced my air filter noriced what looks like oil at air filter end of air intake. Near top what looks like a round cylinder ??? connected to the air intake . there was oil that was mcaked up on top. what could the problem be and how do I fix.

Just spray some brake cleaner on the caked-on oil stain and wipe clean. Then check the operations of your PCV valve. If it has not been replaced for the past couple of years, just install a new one.
