1996 Volkswagen Jetta Front Wheel Drive

My speedometer is not working, in the winter time when it's really cold it will work, but it's start getting into the summer it does not work at all. Please help thanks

I would be thinking a faulty speed sensor on the transmission or a poor electrical connection at the sensor,
