I can't seem to narrow down my engine problem. My check engine is not on. My car is using alot of gas. When you 1st start it after it sits for awhile, it has a cloud of white smoke that comes out the exhaust and it is starting to miss when idling sitting still. When you first start it up for the day, along with the cloud of smoke, the engine doesn't want to run. It cuts out and spudders for awhile until it warms up

How is your coolant level?

Does the cloud of white smoke smell sweet? If so you may have a headgasket issue.

I would get a leakdown test or compression test done if you are low on coolant and the smoke smells sweet.
