As I press on the accelerator it makes a thump noise and it keeps making it as it's going, but once it reaches about 20-25 mph/ the noise goes away.

Check for any broken or worn engine mounts, front strut mounts, or any play in the front axles.

The front engine mount is a common failure and allows the engine to move excessively during acceleration. If they are really bad the engine can actually hit the underside of the hood.
