I have a 94 jetta gl automatic. The dashboard lights up when started and the tach still works. All gauges work except the temp and speedometer. the odometer still reads 200,000 and isnt counting but it lights up. I read online that it may be the VSS sensor or the cluster for the speedometer. The temp gauge could be the whole cluster or maybe the temp sensor on the motor.

theoretically, the temp gauge, will have to do with the engine coolant temp sensor, the other, would be the vehicle speed sensor ,like you mentioned
