Hello,

I have an 1990 VW Jetta that I am having a problem with. After the car warms up (approximately 15 minutes of driving) the RPMs surge up and down while I am idling. It bounces up and down between 900 and 1100. This is not affecting performance but is embarrassing since every time I stop next to a car they think that I am challenging them to a race (revving the engine).

I took it to my mechanic but he was unable to pinpoint the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you might just need to replace your mass air flow sensor
