Transmission problem
1989 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

The car will go into gear but transmission will not engage. Even in first or fifth gear, if you let off the clutch...nothing happens- it keeps idleing. We had replaced the clutch a week ago. Do you know what is causing this to happen? and how can we fix it?
Thank you!

Hi there,

if you can select gears with no motion happening either the clutch hub has failed or you have a broken input shaft in the transmission, either way the transmission will have to be removed to inspect for this fault.
