Hi
Hope I can help with this.
This sounds very strange! Did any warning lights, ie the oil light, come on before the vehicle stopped?
If the oil pump did fail, the oil pressure switch would have picked up a drop in pressure.
I have seen engines fail as a result of being in accidents, however as you say, the garage should have tested the engine running condition before releasing the vehicle back to you. It is their duty of care. Were there any repairs done to the engine as a result of the collision?
You say that youre not sure if the vehicle was used while it was with the garage. If the vehicle was towed into the garage, the milage on the vehicle is sometimes noted by the tow truck company. If so, you can check what the difference is from when it was towed to when it broke down. Just an idea?
