The manufacturer calls for changing the timing belt at this mileage. II have been told I need to do or it will lead to blowing a gasket

this is a diesel engine.

the dealer cost is around $1,000. So this is a big investment for the year of the car.I have just purchased several weeks ago. And the car runs well, and previous owner took excellent care of this car

Hi suefar,

Thank you for the donation.

The timing belt is a periodical maintenence item and if it fails, it can cause a lot of damage to the engine.

Since the mileage is due, it would be advisable to at least check the condition and tension. If the condition is good, you might be able to delay the replacement time but sooner or later it would have to be done.

Since vehicle is in good running condition, it would be better to get it done so to have peace of mind and ensure you get many more good years and mileage out of the engine.
