Engine Performance problem
1998 Volkswagen Golf 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

after driving 30 miles my engine performance was reduced. It felt like it was only fireing on 2 or 3 cylinders , and the car would only run at about 25 miles per hour, even although the revs would increase the power wouldn't. I travelled for about 1 more mile, the car then cut out , i opened the bonnet and smoke came out. After leaving the car to cool down it started no problem and drive ok but after 10 minutes it would cut out.----Is it possibile that it could be a faulty oil pump?

Oil pumps typically cause an engine to seize when they go bad as you drive and they make horrifying sounds as they do it. Instead check your oil and see if it looks like chocolate milk, you may have blown a head gasket. Also check the plugs to see if they have crystals on them.
