1989 Volkswagen Golf 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I have a 1989 VW GOLF my fuel pump is out or the relay swtch is out which is more likely to be bad the fuel pump or the relay switch?

Check the fuel pump relay first. It's in location #6 (top/right corner) for US production or location #2 for Mexican production vehicles,under the dash. If you can bypass the relay by jumping the terminal, you'll know whether the fuel pump(s) are faulty.
Make sure you check the fuse (#10 for US and #5 for Mex) for the fuel pump while your under there.
