2004 Volkswagen Cabriolet Two Wheel Drive Manual 78000 miles

Hi,
I am looking at a car at a dealer. We agreed the clutch was bad and would be replaced before I buy. However the next day they call say: it costs more to replace the clutch than they thought and are having someone else look at it. Now a week later they say it is the clutch cable.

How can I be sure that it is fixed correctly? Can you replace a cable and clutch be bad?

Thank you

Hi there,

if the clutch was slipping a new cable may give you a little extra life, but the clutch will have to be done sooner rather than later, if they are not prepared to do this, go find another car.
