Hello,

I have a used 2001 VW Cabrio GLS that I purchased from a single owner in 2007. It's had a few issues, including the rear wheel ABS sensor go out, that's too costly to replace. Since the winter in Seattle in 2009, I have noticed a rattling noise when starting the engine cool, that can be heard directly from the center of the interior of the car. I am not sure if it's coming from the engine or the drive train. The "Check Engine" light has been on and off for these last few months. After a time of about 10 minutes, once the engine has warmed up, the noise goes away and it drives as normal. I notice the problem more in the mornings, or if it's been sitting unused during the day for a long period of time.

Hi there,

the first thing you must do is get the oil pressure tested, cold idle, hot idle and hot 1200RPM, post the reading for an evaluation.
