Where is the thermostat located on my car?

Looks to be on the side of the engine, about half way down

Read the guide below on changing a thermostat, not vehicle specific but will give you an idea of what you are doing

I need to replace the thermostat on a 2000 2.0 turbo beetle. However, I can't seem to find the thermostat location. Thanks

You need to remove the alternator. Thermostat housing will be behind it. Attached picture. Why are you replacing the thermostat?

I just changed mine as well. You gotta be careful when you replace that thermostat stay in place until housing makes contact with engine block. Since nothing really holds thermostat and o-ring in place, if it moves out of place, it may not seal properly.

Hi,

Replacing the thermostat isn't too difficult to do. Make sure you have a place to put the old coolant after it's drained. You don't want any animals drinking it.

To get you started, here is a link that explains how in general one is replaced. You can use this as a more detailed guide when doing the job. The directions specific to your vehicle are attached in the pics below.
