1974 Volkswagen Beetle burned points & wiring (not burn

1974 Volkswagen Beetle

As soon as the ignition switch is turned on, the points and wiring completely burn up...literally melt & burn! Starter relay maybe? Never seen this!

Maybe the points, wire or condenser is shorting to ground. I seem to recall there's a connector on the side of the distributor housing. Maybe there.

Thanks very much for the help! Found the short. Actually, I had a "hot" wire with a constant short to the points' negative connection from the coil.
