1973 Volkswagen Beetle 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I have a Beetle which we converted to a beach buggy it had a 1.3l but we converted it an made it a 1.6l the motor is a single port air cooled vw motor. The problem is that it starts revving up by itself and when even you release the clutch it starts to rev without even touching the accelerator. any help will be greatly appreciated!?

If its a carburetor system-check the choke and fast idle adjustment, to include the throttle linkages if its binding and also the throttle plate not closing
