Hey there, my friend just got a '73 super beetle. He bought it, and drove it around for about 30-40 miles. When he got back, it wouldn't start. I tried to crank it, and got no noise. So I thought I would tap the starter to free it up. After that, the starter would give the "big click". Turn the key, click. I read to hook the battery directly to the starter, so I tried that. When I did it, the starter engaged, but would just spin. Did I do the test wrong... or what the hell am I missing. Please Help!!!!!!

Hi there,

This is the sign of a failing starter, have it o/hauled and you should be OK.
