Engine Performance problem
1972 Volkswagen Beetle Manual

How much would it cost to ajust the timeing on the engine. When it's ideling an your not giving it gas it wants to die. We also think that some air is getting in were it shouldn't. Or could a beginer like me get a book and some parts and do it myself. So would I have someone do it and how much would
it cost. Or could I do I myself?

Not sure what anyone would charge. You can get the timing close enough with a circuit tester light that clips to the contact points lead. You'll also need a 13 mm socket wrench to loosen the distributor clamp. A manual will show you how. I think the classic, John Muir's How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive is still in print: http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Your-Volkswagen-Alive-Anniversary/dp/1562614800
