Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

Often if you lay the loom roughly as you feel it should lay. The coil Pos wire will be on with the ignition on and this will go to coil Pos(+) there should be a wire from coil (-) to the distributor) the longer section of the loom will go to the generator, one large terminal and one small, also you may have auto choke and idle solenoid for the carby, these will also be on the longer section of the loom, oil sender will be a push on terminal? check the sender, with the ignition on earth that terminal and the oil light should go out, start looking at these and see what you can sort out.

there's a technical section on www.thesamba.com that can help you with this. They have wiring diagrams for almost every VW, and a lot more information than you'll ever need.
