I need to know how to make my bug idle higher because it is so low that the car dies every time I put the clutch in, or stop at a light or sign. I am kind of sure that it is a simple procedure and I don't want to pay for any more repairs at the moment. I also don't have a working gas gauge so if you know how to fix that, I would appreciate it.

Not sure about the gas gauge, but idle speed is easy. There's a throttle stop screw on an arm attached to the throttle valve. Just screw it in against its stop on the fast-idle cam until you get the RPMs you want. Also, you might check ignition timing. Advancing it slightly (but not so much as to cause overheating and preignition knock) has the same effect.
