1969 Volkswagen Beetle Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive Manual 60,000 miles

My car is leaking oil and seems that when the engine gets warm it backfires consistently. I thought it might be the gas so I treated it but that has not solved the problem.

Does it backfire on decelleration?If so, check for exaust leaks
