Vibration in front end when accelerating

When I accelerate at 55 mph my car begins to vibrate. It only does it during acceleration.

If the vibration is only during acceleration and not when coasting then you should have your drive axles inspected. Once the inner joint starts to bind it will cause it to vibrate.

I replaced the passenger side a few years back. Do you think the driver side is the problem?

Yes, I would check both again because there are all kinds of different qualities of CV axles. Here is a guide to help you replace the axles with diagrams below to show you how on your car:

Thanks for all your help Ken. It was the driver side CV axle. Had it replaced no vibration during acceleration.

2008 Honda Accord 4 cyl. at 37MPH a low humming/vibration starts and becomes more pronounced and higher in pitch as speed increases. Some vibration felt through gas pedal also. Smooth pavement makes noise more pronounced and noticible. Local dealership claims not to hear problem, but friends, family and local tire shop employees all hear it. Noise is unrelated to RPMs. Noise is constant, never goes away. Help!

Are the tires worn evenly? Also, is there any change in the sound when turning?

The tires are worn evenly and I had them rotated by Les Schwab in an attempt to isolate the problem, this did not improve the noise. There is no change when turning, the sound remains the same. I just put my studded snow tires on yesterday (they are on their own rims) and I can still hear the noise over them. Thank you.

The only other thing I can say is have the wheel bearing checked. Also, just for the heck of it, check the backing plate behind the brake rotor. Make sure it isn't bent and touching the rotor.

Transmission problem
2005 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 86000k miles

i am getting a vibration in my front end,this happens when i first start to drive the car in the morning and when the car sits all day at work,the vibration lastsabout 5 to 10 minutes ,i had the tires all balanced and rotated and had the brakes all checked ,had the front end checked also bearings ,ball joints tie rod end checked,could it be in my transmission,somebody told me i could have a problem starting there

I have an 04 accord 4cyl with vibration in front end (steering wheel) had everything checked...said it all looks ok. Now at my last oil change I noticed a lot of slop or play in the driveshaft on the passenger side, not the cv joints but where the shaft actually goes into the transmission...I'm about to get it checked out....could be your problem??

The front end of the car vibrates while accelerating (when you apply pressure to the gas pedal).... if you let up off the gas pedal and let the car coast... you DO NOT fell the vibration; it's weird. The vibration ONLY occurs while pushing on the gas pedal. Any thoughts???

Hi Earnest. Welcome to the forum. This is typical of a worn inner cv joint housing although 75,000 miles is kind of soon to have this problem. Under load, the rollers bind on the very tiny worn spots inside the housing and that prevents the joint from changing angles and length as it rotates. That causes the shaft to push on the rubber-mounted steering and suspension parts and transfers the forces to the steering wheel. If you want to disassemble and inspect the housings yourself, I can reply back with the procedure I used, but today you can buy a remanufactured half shaft for much less than the cost of just a new housing from the dealer. You do run the risk of getting one that also has a worn housing that got overlooked, but it isn't that common that I would worry about it. Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to verify my diagnosis other than disassembling it or replacing the entire half shaft. From past experience, I found the problem to be with the passenger side housing about nine out of ten times.

when i accelerate the car there is a vibration, like the front wheels are loose. the vibration ONLY occurs when i hit 60 mph. no vibration under 60 or over 60 mph and only during acceleration. the vibration stops immediately when foot is taken off the accelerator. had tires rotated and balanced and a wheel alignment also but vibration remains. the front end of the car vibrates, can feel it through the car seats, vibration not coming through the steering wheel. car drives really smooth otherwise, no problems steering or braking

Get the CV shaft inner joint checked, they should be out of balance due joints worn or lack of lubrications..

I just installed new Michelin Hydro-Edge tires and have a slight vibration in the steering wheel. I've had the tires balanced several times and can't seen to get rid of it. If occurs between 70 and 85 MPH. It doesn't pull left or right. Moving the tires from front to back doesn't help. It started with the installation of new tires which are one size larger than factory stock, but still recommended by Michelin for this vehicle. Could it be a front end allignment issue?

lugs nuts might not have been torqued properly and brake rotors could be causing problem. your gonna have probblems with htis mechanics will tell you speed limit is a problem with diagnosing

Thanks...I live in the Atlanta area...if you drive under 85 on any of the freeways you're going to get run over. I've been doing some research and someone mentioned it could be the frontend allignment....they called it "feathering". The tires are one size larger than standard from the factory so maybe it has thrown it off.

If your tires are feathering it's likley due to suspension and alignment problems tire air pressure can play a role too. I doubt too much going one or two sizes higher would cause that.

When driving on an uneven surface at a speed between 38 to 43 mph I encounter a vibration or rattle on the front left wheel. When I accelerate or decelerate from this speed range it stops. Over the past three years I have replaced the wheel rim, tie-rod, strut and several other parts on the front-end and to no avail the problem continues. Also, I have taken this car to two Honda dealerships and five other independent mechanics and all say the front end looks fine. Please help me solve this annoying problem.

There is a tool you might be able to borrow or rent from an auto parts store that lends them called the "Chassis Ear". It is a set of six microphones, a switch box, and headphones. You clip the microphones to suspect points, then drive around while listening with the headphones. You can move the microphones around to zero in on the source of the noise. Be aware that many mechanics have never seen or even heard of this tool. Suspension and alignment mechanics use it to find rattles, squeaks, and other noises.

1997 Honda Accord LX mileage: 107,725. I began noticing a strong front-end vibration, which occurs when I depress the brakes, whether at higher speeds for necessary rapid braking, or in routine braking at 30 mph or less. The car is usually driven in the city, both stop-and-go and freeway. This car doesn't have ABS. This is the first real problem I have had with an unusually good vehicle over the years. Is this problem related to the brakes, or would you suggest I look at some other possible cause? Thank you very much for your help.

Your vibration while braking is probably caused by the front rotors not being true. Replace the rotors if they are below the minimum thickness to be turned. Also, torque lug nuts so as to not distort the brake rotors.
