I saw your response on a 2021 Jetta, is it the same for 2017? Is my canister behind the left rear wheel? We are going to replace the vent solenoid on this car.

Hello,

The EVAP canister/vent valve setup is generally in the charcoal canister is mounted under the rear of the vehicle near the fuel tank area. The EVAP vent solenoid/vent valve is mounted at or near the charcoal canister. Check out the images (below). Let me know if you need anything else.

TY, this pic is what I needed. I did some more digging myself on the PC & found this in the back right corner of the car. I found out all the stuff folks were talking about on the net is inside this doughnut canister & not separate replaceable parts. see the pic of it in this car. I also found out the 2017 is all by itself with this setup. No other years use it this way. I smoke tested the EVAP system to find my P0442 code issue & found the small leak in one of the lines to this canister. Which as it turned out to be caused by a broken rear coil spring on the right side. Putting extra strain on the EVAP line.

Also to share, this is my first EVAP repair & I didn't have a smoke machine for the job. I looked around & saw items priced over $1000.00, which is way out of my reach. So, I kept digging & found an item called HyperSmoke on Amazon.com for $60. Hooks up to vehicle battery to make it portable & hangs from hood latch loop. Will run for 2 hours on one fill up of oil. does both EVAP & vacuum lines. I must say usually you get what you pay for, but this little item worked great! I shared this because we already threw a new gas cap & purge valve in this car thinking they would fix the issue. Code kept coming back. We were going to do the vent solenoid next when I got all this info.
