I have a Dodge charger which was jump started and while driving the engine cut off and moved to park locking rear wheels. Is this as it should be or should it have stay in gear or have moved to neutral to enable to be parked safly

It sounds like the crankshaft sensor or fuel pump is going out but to be sure lets check out his guide to help us fix it. When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Please run down this guide and report back.

Not too long ago I noticed there was a hole in the splash fabric the car has connected to the chassis in the space that the rear right wheel goes in. In that hole I noticed there was a like a computer chip looking sensor that was broken from a rock, I assume, and now my car is constantly shutting off on me because it's causing shorts in the battery. I would like to know what sensor that is because I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Hello,

Can you please take a picture of the sensor and upload it here for us?

Thanks,

Which wheel is this? More then likely it is speed sensor but we will more than likely need to remove the liner and see if it is actually damaged. However, if you have a short then it could because a battery draw which will cause it to drain.

Here is the process to remove the wheel liner and once it is out, get a picture of this sensor and I will be able to identify it for you. Thanks

When cold runs perfect when it gets warm it vibrates and shuts down.
I changed all spark plugs and coils ran Thur scan say misfire 301.
I did see a piece of rubber around the spark plug that I thought was suppose to be there not sure now because the others didn’t have it. I found the rubber around the first spark plug position I have no idea what it is. please help. also which is the first cylinder? thanks

Welcome to 2CarPros.

I suspect you have two different things happening. The P0301 indicates a cylinder 1 misfire, so I suspect the piece of rubber you find belongs to the insulator on the coil pack. That would allow it to arc and misfire.

Now, the stalling when warm sounds like a bad crankshaft position sensor. Take a look through these links to better understand its purpose, symptoms, and in general how one is replaced.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-a-crank-shaft-angle-sensor-works

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/symptoms-of-a-bad-crankshaft-sensor

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/crankshaft-angle-sensor-replacement

What to do is check if there is spark to the plugs when it won't start or using a live data scanner, see if there is an RPM signal when cranking. Here are a few more links you may find helpful:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-ignition-system

If you determine the crankshaft position sensor is bad, here are the directions specific to your vehicle for removal and replacement. The attached pictures correlate with the directions.

3. Unlock and disconnect the electrical connector.
4. Remove mounting bolt.
5. Remove sensor.

NOTE: If reinstalling the sensor, check the sensor O-ring for damage and replace if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil before installing the sensor.

1. Push the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor into the transmission case with a twisting motion until fully seated.

CAUTION: Before tightening the sensor mounting bolt, be sure the sensor is completely flush to the mounting surface. If the sensor is not flush, damage to the sensor mounting tang may result.

2. While holding the sensor in this position, install and tighten the retaining bolt to 9 Nm (79.5 in. lbs.).
3. Connect and lock the electrical connector to the CKP sensor.
4. Connect the negative battery cable and tighten nut to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.).

NOTE: The Cam/Crank Variation Relearn procedure must be performed anytime there has been a repair/replacement made to a powertrain system, for example: flywheel, valvetrain, camshaft and/or crankshaft sensors or components See: Engine Control Module > Programming and Relearning > PCM/ECM Reprogramming

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If the sensor is replaced, the relearn / reprogramming will be required. This will require specific tooling to be done and you may not have the scanner to do it.

Let me know if you have other questions or need help.

Take care,
Joe

Hi,

I assume when you say it won't crank, you mean it won't start? Because all the parts you put on have to do with cranking. When you turn the key does the engine turn over but won't start running or does it not do anything?

If this is the case, we need to find out if you have spark. Hold a spark plug against the engine block and see if there is a spark. If not, then we know what direction to go.

An engine needs spark at the right time, fuel, and compression to run. I assume you have compression because this is not a sudden thing to lose but spark and fuel could be. Spark is the easiest to verify and then we can go from there. Thanks

Hello,

This is common when the throttle body gets dirty and cause the PCM to shut the engine down because of correlation issues. Here is a guide that explains it and how to fix it.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/reduced-power-limp-mode

The security light came on becasue the battery was low and then replaced just reset the system

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-reset-a-security-system

This guide can help as well.

This could be a number of things but the most likely cause is the crankshaft position sensor.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/symptoms-of-a-bad-crankshaft-sensor

Keep in mind that if you replace this sensor that you will need to perform a relearn with a scan tool. If you don't have one that can do this, just make arrangements to have that done.

Hey DMAILADDI02,

I have seen this problem before this is what I want you to do, lift the hood and while the engine is running grab the wiring harness from around the engine compartment and move them. One of them is shorting to ground and stalling the engine. Please let me know what you find.

Do any of the lights work? Did the car restart? As far as the brakes, did they just get hard to push because the engine stalled?

I have a 2007 Dodge charger r/t. For the past 5 months or so it has been acting strange. When i and driving, and starting to slow down and come to a complete stop, say at a red light, my car will make a revving up sound, and sometimes it will even jolt a little like it wants to go forward while im stopped. Sometimes its worse than others, and sometimes it doesnt do it at all. It only does this when i am slowing down and coming to a stop, never when im trying to accelerate. Then sometimes, maybe once a week or even sometimes not for a couple weeks, when it does this, it will actually stall and die. It makes a bing sound and then dies. I will immediately put it in park and it will start back up fine. There is no check engine light on. I have taken it to a mechanic, and they changed the spark plugs, brake pads, and did a basic tune up, and he said that was all he could fine wrong with the car. after having that done the car started doing the same things almost right away. I just don't know what to do, any advise that can put me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! thank you

Inspect and test all the following listed below:

Oxygen sensor
Catalytic converter
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)
Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Cap and rotor

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard.

On two occassions my Charger has stalled. Once while driving and lost all power, once while parked. It does shake and it feels like it is going to stall at times but doesn't. What is the problem? What should I have the dealer look at when I take it in?
