Hi,
This doesn't sound like a crankshaft issue. This sounds more like a fuel or air issue.
Most likely the idle air control valve has become restricted or failed.
Here is a link that explains this and more detail. Give this a look and let's go from there.
If this is not the issue then we need to monitor fuel pressure. However, this is unlikely because if it starts when you give more accelerator, then you are essentially just giving it the air it needs to start by opening the throttle plate.
