im asking a daft question , but ive had my car 5 months and never checked the oil or water till i had no choice the other day when car went a bit funny , i had plenty of water but no oil in the oil part is this normal ,

Oil will diminish over time .. obviously yours has not been replaced in a long time ... replace the oil and filter to the correct level and keep a check on the levels !!
