I have had the head gaskit took off and put back by a mech but it doesnt sound right and it seems jumpy the engine please can you think wot it could be many thanks.

take the car back to the mechanic .. it is his responsibilty to give you the car back running correctly ... I would start by checking the spark plugs/wires and coil, .. it could also be the mechanic does not have the timing set correctly !!
