1997 Vauxhall Tigra gear selector

when "D" is selected on auto box on my tigra it doesnt pull away, it feels like its not selecting 1st gear, but if i manually select 1st it pulls fine, how can i overcome this problem, i have been told its the selector which is the problem please help!!

you need this to be looked at by a good transmission shop .. it is more likely to be a fault inside the trans .. than a selector fault ?
