The tming marks are indented marks on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley's. These have to be lined up correctly when replacing the timing belt to ensure engine runs correctly and is not damaged when cranking the engine !

There is a mark on the camshaft that lines up with a mark on the block. There are marks on the camshaft's that line up with marks on the head ! This a very precise repair and should be carried out correctly or damage can occur to the engine ! You should really get a manual from your local library or autoparts store for PRECISE step by step instructions on this repair !
