there is no power as if the turbo isn't working and the engine management light comes on when I over rev it?

Yep, this is the perfect mileage for the turbo to go out, to be sure lets remove either the intake or exhaust side of he turbo to check for endplay. This guide can help show you what I am talking about.

Grab the turbo mainshaft and try to move it up and down, it should only move about .002 thousands.
