hi, i have just bought a vauxhall frontera 2.2 rs 3 door, when i picked it up immediatly after its 12 month mot, it seemed great, it wasnt over heating and it felt responsive,my home was only 10 mile from dealers, anyway next morning i was going on a 30 mile round trip so i decided to check coolant level and it was empty so i toppped it up to fill level ,when i got back of journey i noticed the heaters in the car were cold and the tempreture gauge was going up into the red on idle yet stayed normal when driving at constant speed, every time i slowed down the temp went back up into the red. this had only happened since i topped coolant resevior up with tap water, about3 quarters of pint i put in. the engine was cold when i done this. if my head gasket has gone through this do you think it will need skimming, the temp gauge didnt go in red for more than 30 seconds at a time.
